I had problems logging into the poll. So here goes: I have no problem with cross posting in NTREG’s Facebook or Linked-In groups. Due to the Facebook information use policy and Zuckerberg's lack of accountability or integrity, I want nothing to do with Facebook.

It would probably violate our pledge to never share contact info

I would totally agree about Facebook. Don’t have an account and my information should never be added to Facebook. Robert Lagerblad

But without Fakebook, how can you find out my essential oils side-business and how the Russians are interfering with our elections?

Many people don't use (and will never use) Facebook or other "social" sites. Easy answer in that respect: Don't create an account.

Still, we have members and supporters who DO use Facebook. Some of the NTREG team want a way to post meeting and other announcements to our Groups.io members, and have the information automatically show up on Facebook. It appears this is possible. Now they're trying to figure out the "how to do it" aspect. Dan On 6/9/20 3:43 PM, Robert wrote:

My point was that my information should not leak from NTREG to Facebook in any way shape or form. If NTREG guarantee it will not, then all is fine. I still want to be able to communicate and read our information and as long as there are other ways to do so, then that's fine too. Robert L -----Original Message-----

No worries. Just NTREG team members striving to be efficient. It's my understanding the goal is to post meeting announcements one time via Groups.io, and have the information show up on NTREG's "social" sites as well. I'm not aware of any effort to have our conversation group posts go anywhere else. For notes, in a poll taken a few months ago by NTREG (and if I remember correctly), results revealed approximately 40% of NTREG's members and supporters get their meeting information from social sites. I get my info from this listserv, email and via some but not all Social media sites. I also don’t do Facebook on principal.

Thanks for the responses & comments. 1) I’ve heard that at least one person trying to respond to the poll could not because they weren’t signed in to groups.io and their password didn’t work (using a password manager so it wasn’t a wrong password). If anyone else has had this or any other problem with the poll process please comment. This was apparently an annoying problem with the old Yahoo group, so I’d like to nip it in the bud if happening here very often. 2) Responding re. the issue of violating our pledge to never share contact info: - The question is general, not restricted to sharing by team members or group members: since https://ntreg.groups.io is public, anyone with the URL (and it can be found by anyone searching groups.io for terms like “renewable”) can see posts made here without having to be a member of the group or pledge to anything. - I asked about crediting posters by name, not sharing contact information. 3) If anyone wants to see the poll results but not have to sign in: https://ntreg.groups.io/g/main/topic/cross_posting_between_ntreg/74713686 4) That said, I encourage everyone to sign up with groups.io so you can log in and utilize the additional features doing so provides: New Topic (create new message), New Poll, Chats, Directory, Photos, Files, and Databases (Files not being used). 5) NTREG’s Facebook is a page, not a group. It is public, so that anyone with the URL can view it regardless of Facebook membership status (as long as they’re willing to ignore the repeated requests to join). If you want to post there, if you have a Facebook account you can post in the NTREG community section and “Send a message” to the page admins asking your post be shared to the main page. https://www.facebook.com/ntreg/ If anyone wants their post from NTREG groups.io to be shared on NTREG’s Facebook page, you need to ask one of the admins there: standard process for this is TBD (depending on level of interest). NTREG’s Facebook page currently has 960 followers, although I don’t know how to tell how many actually look at posts. 6) NTREG’s LinkedIn group is “discoverable” as a “Listed Group”: I don’t understand LinkedIn groups well, but I believe anyone who is a member of the group can post there, and that if you try to access the group you will be asked to make a request to join: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/6615690/ . If anyone wants their post from NTREG groups.io to be shared on NTREG’s LinkedIn group without joining the group, you need to ask one of the members there: standard process for this is TBD (depending on level of interest). There are currently 149 members, but I don’t know how to tell how many actually look at posts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------On Sat, Jun 6, 2020 at 09:22 AM, James Orenstein wrote:

Go for it, but a note of consideration. We may be in a 'Behavioral Sink' [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavioral_sink]. Social media as it exists today is a metaphor for the cages and walls and hyper social interaction observed in industrial factory farms with our fellow vertebrates. That doesn't look encouraging. Our instinct is to rationalize the changes with our our ideologies and politics. That's how we got another CO2 record (417ppm) and exploding ocean dead zones (up 400% in the last 50yrs).
