VOLUNTEER NOW TO IMPACT THE LIVES OF FUTURE ENGINEERS

 The Future City Competition – sponsored by DiscoverE (National Engineers Week) – inspires young students about engineering by challenging them to solve the real-world problems associated with building a livable city of the future. This year’s theme is “Clean Water: Tap into Tomorrow.” More than 50 schools are working hard on their city concepts and their solutions for resilient water systems.


 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Competition Judges – (7:45 am – 1:30 pm, Jan 25, 2020 at UT Arlington) Interact directly with the middle-school students as they present their models and solutions for the cities of the future. Training and rubrics provided.

 Junior Competition Judges – (7:45 am – 11:00 am, Jan 25, 2020 at UTA) Interact directly with the 4-5th graders as they present their models for the cities of the future. Training and rubrics provided.
 Event Coordinators – (7:30 am – 5:00 pm, Jan 25, 2020 at UTA) Help ensure everything runs smoothly on the day of the competition. Non-technical volunteers welcome.

LOCATION
Event will be at Nedderman Hall at UT Arlington.  Detailed directions regarding location, parking, etc., will be sent after you sign up.

 The following is a brief description of what to expect.  Much more detail will be provided in the orientation the morning-of Saturday, January 25.

·  Preliminary round - 10 rooms with presentations going in parallel.  Judges will be assigned to a panel of 3-4 judges.  A panel is assigned to a room.  Room managers will distribute and collect score sheets and control timing.  Expect 6 team presentations in each room.

Timeline for each entry: (30 min total)
Orientation materials to front, shake hands with judges before and makes thier presentation.

    - 5 min   -- judges look over and score model
    - 5-7 min -- team presentation
    - 7 min   -- Q&A
    - 5 min   -- team removes model and presentation aids, judges complete score sheets
 * Scheduled breaks for each room.  During the 30-min break, special awards judges will be in the room to see models and interview student teams.
